Why Using Canva to Create Your Brand Logo is Not Always the Best Choice
Disclaimer: This post is for the business owner that’s ready to invest in a brand that they want to trademark. That isn’t always necessary or accessible for everyone as they start out. DIY brands should use every tool available to them to set themselves apart in a crowded marketing landscape. That being said, it’s hard to set yourself apart when you have a logo that contains elements that everyone else has access to as well. (Just sayin’.)
Here’s why I wouldn’t use Canva to create a professional logo:
Canva is a fantastic platform for creating visually appealing marketing materials, but when it comes to creating a brand logo, it's best to exercise caution. Here are some reasons why:
Design Limitations
Canva offers a wide range of templates and design elements, but it may not have the advanced tools and features necessary to create a custom, distinctive brand logo that truly represents your company. My logos are 100% created by me—which means my clients can trademark their logos. That can’t be said for logos that are created on Canva, as accessible as the tool is.
Uniqueness
Logos and icons are an entity’s fingerprint. Something that can be easily identified but must be unique to them. Because Canva is widely used, your logo may end up looking similar to others. To ensure that your brand stands out, it's essential to have a logo that accurately represents your brand's values and personality—and does not look like someone else’s.
Quality
A professional logo designer, like me for instance, can create a high-quality, vector-based logo that can be resized without losing its resolution. Canva creates raster graphics, which can become blurry or pixelated when enlarged. My files are created to maximize quality, print perfectly, and scale beautifully.
While Canva is a great option for creating social media templates and all kinds of fun collateral, it may not be the best choice for creating a professional brand logo. (I use it often and love it for on-the-go updates!) Reach out today if you need a unique, high-quality logo that accurately represents your brand. I create art that serves as your brand’s fingerprint—no one else will have a logo that looks like yours.
